If you just want to hear the sounds, the radio link is here. It will include a voice-over advert for ‘Back To The Roots’ festival… link also copied here. These meditation shows roll monthly on 2nd Saturday of month 😊

This is a concept mix. I have applied the ‘concept album’ kind of approach by bands to DJ mixes. There is a new page on my website for these concept mixes. Music is powerful stuff and obviously can inspire us!

Any messages on txt line will be read on next week’s show… Minimal hosting as to be appropriate for meditation.

Alan Watts talk on meditating with sound:

Inspiration for this mix

This mix was recorded in October of last year. The first track features a sample from the above linked meditation talk by Alan Watts. I find this talk to be super meaningful and two tracks featuring samples from it kind of found there way to me last year. In this mix I play ‘Come together’ by Nox Vahn & Marsh… I played the other track by Antinomy in a psy-trance mix on In2beats last summer… that mix is on my youtube channel along with other mixes.

In this talk Alan Watts says:

So, will you try an experiment with me? Simply close your eyes, and allow your ears to hear all sounds around you. Don’t try to name or identify the sounds, just hear them as you would listen to music. As when you hear a flute or a guitar. Without asking what it means.

And as and when I talk, just hear the sound of my voice. Don’t bother about what it means. Your brain will take care of that by itself. Just let your eardrums respond as they will, to all vibrations now in the air. Don’t let yourself, or your ears, be offended by improper or unscheduled sounds. If for example, the record is scratchy, okay. You wouldn’t object if you were listening to it sitting by a fire of crackling logs.”

Above quote copied from this website page > Alan Watts: Don’t Think Too Much – (teachthought.com)

As Alan’s talk kind of implies… don’t think to much, just feel and experience, appreciate the moment… Although I do a lot of writing… and so thinking!! Perhaps the central message in my writing is one of opening our minds, going beyond the words… My first book was titled ‘Open Minds To Realise Peace’… As a society we have come to be quite complicated thinkers… to untangle this mess it can be a pain in the ass, but the simple light at the end of the tunnel is worth it… Well at least I hope so for the amount of time I spend writing!! Lol

Bruce Lee’s famous quote is:

“Don’t think… feel… It’s like a finger pointing at the moon. Do not concentrate on the finger, or you will miss all of the heavenly glory.”

On the ‘Heal Our World’ album featuring Karnzi and Anatomy beats that I released back in 2012… There’s an excerpt from a radio interview included. I was asked about the inspiration I had for my lyrics, I kind of said in a round about way that I struggle with words because there are things in life that can’t be put into words. I gave the example of when you look into the eyes of someone you love… can you put that into words?

So this month’s Spirit Journey mix was recorded October last year… By playing a pre-record I will be able to meditate myself on Saturday. Think I may not even talk over the first track, will perhaps introduce the show afterwards so it can just play out unpolluted by my voice… just having the words of Alan Watts.

Last month’s Spirit Journey mix had a focus on the ‘roots’. This month’s mix has a slightly more ‘spicy’ energy, but in a subtle way. More spicy than a korma, kind of more than a tikka but with a much more mellow spice… yea what are you on about Tim? Lol if you are into chillis its kind of the ‘Padron’ or ‘Machu Pichu’ … A heat that can be subtle but also unpredictable, each chilli may vary in heat but both of these varieties are said to have a subtle but complex heat….. If I’ve lost you in the last couple of sentences then basically… I like cooking with beats 😊 plenty of varieties, colours and flavours to choose from and we can create a taste that is just right for ourself. Whether other people find it tasty, well that’s another thing… I hope you do 😊

As this mix is quite a ‘complex’ sound and perspective of inspiration – 4 teaser tracks! Not just 1 … not just 2!!! Ok I’ll stop hyping it lol!

Teaser tracks

For the start of mix>

‘Come together’ which features words by Alan Watts taken from his above linked meditation talk.

‘Peyote canyon’ in which you can hear a horse, it has a western style vibe… Like stepping up onto a horse to begin the journey, we must trust the horse… kind of like the above mentioned varieties of chilli, the heat level is unpredictable 😊 … but subtle… a well behaved horse lol

For the outro of mix >

‘IDK’ to touch on how embarking on a journey may lead us to question our perspective in life… vocal says:

‘Emptiness’ to highlight the importance of appreciating life in the moment…The vocal says:

“It’s in the air, I know you feel it… Don’t have to pretend, just admit it… It don’t get no better than this”

“I don’t know if I’m okay… Should I go or should I stay”

Much love & good vibes 😊

Warm waves mix

This is the next concept mix, topic is close to my heart… I’ve gone in! Respect to those who are feeling this, proper! If you find these kind of topics to be interesting the review edition of my book Earth & Water will be available in paperback soon.

We live in amazing times sonically, before electronic music I wonder how it would have been possible to experience this kind of sub bass sound… The kind that goes through you and you feel in the stomach… literally a gut feeling 😊 perhaps church organs, didgeridoo, gongs and large chamber bass drums would have offered this, as well as a good old thunderstorm. However, we now have these sounds at our finger tips, we don’t even have to put a CD on… these sounds are accessible online! Something we perhaps take for granted at times.

There is a downside to the level of electronic and technological stimulation in our modern world though, it has potential to separate ourselves from each other and the natural world. In the grand scheme of things its not that long ago that computers and mobile phones didn’t exist. Again, we live in amazing times with such technology. I’m not saying otherwise but… there is a but lol… Is this an overstimulation that is too much for us to handle in a healthy way. Are some of the mental, emotional and physical illnesses we now experience as a modern population due to the technology… that to some extent we take for granted?

These conundrums have influenced this mix. Chilled rollers with plenty of time for contemplation, the first 20mins or so only features abstract vocals, it’s time to immerse in the sound and our self. Moving further into the mix I wanted to bring in a social element… When we feel more open to our own feelings, even subconsciously, we have heightened awareness of other people’s feelings too and can better empathise.

I think it’s only natural for us to close down emotionally due to the overload of our senses in our modern world. This can cause dis-ease. As a culture we perhaps need to ‘numb’ ourselves because we do not feel at ease. It’s easy to downplay the experience of a drug addict for example than to listen to and hear their pain. It’s the old saying don’t judge before you walk a day in someone else’s shoes. This invites a question that is posed by Dr Gabor Mate… Is an individual’s disease due to a disease in their community?

In this short talk titled ‘the myth of normal’ taken from the mental health documentary ‘Crazywise’ Gabor brings to mind the way of indigenous tribes to heal individuals by way of communal gathering, ceremony and perhaps most importantly, acceptance. He says that in our society we often value a person not for who they are but for what they produce or consume. That if they do not produce or consume they are devalued. He also mentions that he thinks there is an intelligence in nature, which the recognition of or connection to is ‘spirituality’… That if we ignore this intelligence we produce pain for ourselves and others.

Gabor Mate short talk >

In the documentary ‘Crazywise’ Robert Thurman poses the idea that we live in a psychotic society, meaning a society that is out of touch with reality.
